Measure the space.
Keep the questions.
Before comparing boot organisers, record your own space and the items you want to carry. This two-page sheet gives you a place to sketch, measure and note what still needs checking.
Download the free two-page PDFA4 print-and-write PDF · About 6 KB · Not a fillable form. Read the same planning steps below. No measurement submission or signup is required.
Measure your actual setup.
Park safely before measuring. Use millimetres (mm) throughout. Note the seat and floor setup; no registration or VIN is needed.
- Usable width, depth and height.
- Opening width and height along the intended path.
- Wheel arches, hinges, obstructions and access you need.
- Hatch movement, handles and lid clearance.
Sketch where and how you measured. Mark unknown measurements as “check”.
List what must go inside.
The first page has a sketch area and four item rows. Use another copy if needed.
- Item and quantity.
- Longest, widest and tallest dimensions, in mm.
- Access needed while using the space.
A bag's outside size does not tell you its usable internal or pocket sizes. Keep those questions separate.
Compare two options without guessing.
Record the exact model and variant, information source and date. Add each candidate's outer dimensions, usable internal or pocket sizes, rigid/flexible construction and lid or handle space. Leave missing facts unresolved.
Fictional example: why smaller does not prove fit
- Recorded space
- 700 W × 500 D × 400 H mm.
- Opening
- 600 W × 350 H mm.
- Candidate outer dimensions
- 650 W × 400 D × 300 H mm.
The candidate is smaller than the recorded space in each dimension, but its stated width exceeds the opening width by 50 mm.
Still unresolved: path, orientation, obstructions and hatch closure need physical checking. These invented numbers neither approve nor rule out a fit. No product or vehicle has been tested.
Write down the missing fact.
- Check missing dimensions, opening/path and lid or handle clearance.
- Check access, floor/seat setup and vehicle-manual carrying/securing guidance.
- Ask the seller for evidence where information is missing; do not guess.
The comparison is a record of questions. It is not approval to buy, install or carry a particular product.
